Our chosen form of government has a Town Council that enjoys all the importance of a Board of Directors (legislating and policy-making) and a Town Manager that is appointed by the council to serve as North Branford's chief executive officer overseeing the day-to-day management of town business and fulfilling the policy direction of Town Council.

The Town Manager is responsible for policy implementation and administration, appointing Town staff, the development and execution of the annual operating and capital budget, directing municipal operations, and communications with the Town Council, various boards and commissions, and Town staff.

Message from the Town Manager

North Branford continues to be a resilient community embracing the challenges presented us, and continuing to look for new opportunities for community growth and improvement. We are proud of what your government has been able to accomplish and we plan to build upon that record of progress by looking for new ways in which we can serve you.

Working with the Town Council, the Town has developed a common set of goals to help direct resources, set priorities, form policy and influence the budget. Our goals are:

Goal 1: Improve the decision-making process for construction projects and major issues facing the town by integrating strategic planning into the process.
Goal 2: Interview appointees to make sure board and commission share the Council's vision.
Goal 3: Bring quality development to the Old Town Hall site to model good redevelopment.
Goal 4: Plan to change orientation of Route 80 and Route 17 to be more commercial.
Goal 5: Develop management plan and policy toward municipally-owned property.

A number of exciting projects are also underway which will have long-term benefits to our community, including:

• Acquiring two former farms from the Swajchuk and Hyland families in the Town’s “Green Belt” which will build on North Branford’s outstanding quality of life. The Town will start a master planning process for these properties to meet our growing needs. It is envisioned that one of these sites will present the Town an opportunity to build a stronger sense of community. Viewing this site as a community-gathering place, the site can reinforce a “sense of place” for North Branford and serve as a recreational town green to give residents an opportunity to congregate, recreate and build a common identity.
  
  
• The Town continues to partner with the Connecticut Economic Research Center (CERC) to help grow the economic base of North Branford. CERC developed a strategic direction for economic development in North Branford, which was accepted by the Town Council and Economic Development Commission as a planning tool. To implement the strategy CERC’s team of consultants are serving the Town as our economic development staff addressing business outreach issues, regulatory concerns, marketing and more.
  
  
• A Major investment in the local library system has begun that will double the size of existing facilities, open up new program opportunities and improve services.
  
  
• Renovation at North Branford Intermediate School
  has started and architectural plans are being completed.
  
  
• The Yale Urban Design Workshop is working with the Town to come up with a bold vision for the former Town Hall site and how this site can build our community and its tax base.
