Communications

The Communications Center provides safety operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The Communications Center provides service for police, fire, ambulance, public works and the receiver of all E 9-1-1 calls.

The Communications Center is equipped with a hot line enabling radio contact with area police departments saving vital time during police emergencies.  The center also monitors burglary and fire alarms for businesses, residents and schools.  A Statewide Computer network is also available for vital information concerning criminal and motor vehicle activity.  A new weather radio alerts the operators of any storm that could affect the residents in an emergency.  All incoming calls are recorded by a state of the art Dictaphone Recording Equipment.  The Communications Center is protected by bulletproof glass and armor, and is the main lifeline to all the residents of North Branford in case of a natural disaster.  The center is backed up by an Onan diesel fueled generator in case of severe weather resulting in a power failure.  It is estimated the Communications Center receives in excess of 25,000 calls per year.

Civil Preparedness

Fire Chief William H. Seward III, is appointed as the Civil Preparedness director.  The emergency center for the Town is located in the Police Department. The Local Emergency Plan Committee meets regularly throughout the year to ensure that the plan is updated.  Members of this committee include the Fire Chief, Police Chief and Town Manager and representatives from the local utilities and other Town agencies that might be called into service during weather or other Town emergencies.

Animal Control

During the 2004-05 fiscal year, the Town entered into a inter-municipal agreement with the Town of Branford to provide Animal Control services for North Branford.  The Branford Animal Control officer was appointed as North Branford Municipal Animal Control Officer (MACO).  Residents with issues for the MACO are still advised to call the 484-2707 phone number and the North Branford Communications Center will connect you with the appropriate resources.
